Banana Board, Kings Cross

There were two of these signs mysteriously emblazoned with bananas at Kings Cross station the other day. The only explanation I can come up with is that since it was raining heavily that day and because there were constant announcements regarding the slipperyness of the floor (I’ve often wondered why in a country like ours we cover our station floors in such fatally smooth surfaces…did we not expect rain?), that a member of staff well versed in the iconography of slapstick drew these signs as some kind of warning.

Odd Prejudice, Shoreditch

The mysterious use of “others” here is strangely vague and at the same time widely encompassing. “Others” could be perceived as almost anything you cared to imagine. Also, I wonder really how many people have tried to take their cat into this shop?

Missing Parrot, Hackney Central

Can this be real? I like how the parrot isn’t officially lost merely “out and about”, probably chatting up men or small boys by squawking loudly.

I myself wasn’t even aware nuclear trains even existed. I’m guessing that they’re not nuclear powered trains because that would suggest some sort of innovation in train technology which really doesn’t sound like this country at all. So it must be trains carrying nuclear waste then, which makes me question the wisdom of sending these trains through our city in the first place? Who came up with that one? “I’ve got an idea lads! Let’s send some highly dangerous and volatile material through the most densely populated part of the country. C’mon it’ll be a laugh”

Children ride the Mega Slide despite the risk of lightening strikes.

It was an unrelentingly grim day with ominous dark grey clouds hanging low over the event. Sporadic showers sent people running for shelter every fifteen minutes or so. Stallholders hastily covered items, food vendors battened down the hatches and ride operators made quick calculations on the statistical threat of lightening strikes. In short this was a typical British summertime event. Read more
