In what many will see as a blown raspberry and a big sarky  two fingers up to Pope Gregory XIII and almost 500 years of the Gregorian calendar, Westminster Council has decided to close the road here on a day that, before the creation of this sign, previously had never existed. People bang on and on about putting more power directly into the hand of local authorities but I think that this image will serve as stark warning that some will be liable to abuse their power and start establishing their own calendars. Where will it all end? Councils should not have to power to play with the natural laws of time. First they start adding extra days into the year, soon they’ll be making weeks 10 days long…just think what that’ll do to your council tax bills.
